About the Sac DOG E-mail Lists
Technical Information
You must be a subscriber to send
e-mail to the general list. (Only the list owner or SacDOG board
members and officers are allowed to send to the Friends List.) Your
e-mail is publicly broadcast to all members on the list. When you
reply to a message the content is also broadcast publicly to all
members of the list. You may also reply directly to a particular
list member by changing the To: field to
the person's private e-mail address.
Netiquette
We're all sophisticated e-mailers
these days. Still, I must list guidelines for being a subscriber of the general
list.
Subject lines—When posting
a new message, please provide a clear
and specific subject. Change the subject line if the message
string changes.
Attachments—Do not send
executable file
attachments. For non-executable files, the maximum
message/attachment size is 300kb.
Quoting other posts—When quoting another person,
edit out whatever isn't directly applicable to your reply. Don't let
your email software automatically quote the entire body of messages you
are replying. Take the time to edit any quotations down to the minimum
necessary to provide context for your reply. This is especially
important for readers of the digest version of the list. Long quotations
can be extremely confusing.
Flaming/General
Disruption—Be
neither overly annoying to or overly annoyed with other list
members. Of course constant, total agreement is impossible. We do
not expect or assume that all of our members will agree at all
times. However, it is important that contributors refrain from using
inflammatory language or making personal attacks. As we all know, email
can be severely misconstrued because facial expression and tone of
voice are absent. Just be polite.
If you're a disruptive subscriber,
you'll be abandoned by the pack.
Privacy—Posts to the SacDOG list are private. Do not make unauthorized copies of messages or forward
to others outside the group without first obtaining permission from
the author.
Advertising—Advertising
to promote any for-profit business is strictly forbidden. If you are
a non-profit, dog-related group and would like to announce a
specific event or fundraiser, feel free to send to the list.
Topics—Because
we all get too much e-mail these days please post only topics related to our goal—off-leash
recreation. Other related subjects are acceptable, but keep
in mind that every person on this list has subscribed to
stay informed about off-leash recreation issues in Sacramento
County.
