Officers & Board of Directors

Kristin Arnold, Director
Kristin received both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music, violin performance. As a musician she has performed as part of orchestra and chamber ensembles throughout Montana, in New York City, Boston, Seattle, and in and around the Sacramento region. She is currently working on a project involving a string quartet with the intention of playing public performances in the near future. For her primary income, she has held positions as a veterinary technician, an administrative assistant for an environmental engineering firm, an office manager for an architecture firm, and is currently a consultant for an information technology firm.

Kristin currently resides with her ‘multi-creatural’ family, comprised of three mixed-breed dogs and two cats, all rescues. In addition to her involvement with SacDOG, Kristin is fascinated with dog and animal behavior and interaction, and has a deep concern for pet abandonment and over-population. She was a Spay Day volunteer for four years and also volunteered at 4Paws University as an assistant to the trainers.

Jackie Kuhwarth, President
Jackie is from Marin County where she worked for over a decade in the IT department at Birkenstock Footprint Sandals, Inc. She moved to Sacramento in 1989 to get married and the Kuhwarths now live in the River Park area of Sacramento with their three rescued basenjis QB, Cooper (pictured), and Ben.

In 1996 Jackie helped found and build a Web site for Basenji Rescue and Transport and still serves as a board member and as their Webmaster. Her most satisfying volunteer effort, however, has been working as a Delta Society Pet Partner with Jake (January 11, 1990 - June 15, 2005). For six years, she and Jake were an animal-assisted therapy team for a wide range of populations at Shriners Hospital for Children, Mercy Rehab, Sutter Hospital, and numerous senior facilities.

Jackie founded Sacramento Dog Owners Group in May 2000.

Janel Silva, Director
Janel grew up in San Francisco, CA and graduated from San Francisco State University (BA in Political Science). Her professional interests have been varied and have included working as a Manager in the membership offices of UC Berkeley's Athletics Department to starting and managing a Safety and Ergonomics program for a large dot com business. Currently Janel is in the process of starting her own business servicing Sacramento and the Bay Area doing Resale Staging and Interior Design.

In 2001, Janel and her husband relocated to Sacramento and decided to get their very first dog together. They adopted Stewart at 7 weeks of age from the Sacramento County Animal Shelter. He is now a beautiful, 85 lb., special needs mutt (genetic bilateral elbow dysphasia) whose breed is anyone's guess and who is the love of Janel's life (ssh! don't tell her husband!). Unfortunately, Janel quickly discovered that off-leash recreational opportunities for her 4 legged friend were far and few between which is how she found and joined the Board of SacDOG.

Along with her efforts at SacDOG, Janel has actively volunteered her services with many different animal organizations including Pets Unlimited in San Francisco, the San Francisco SPCA, Spay Day (2003 & 2004) in Sacramento and 4Paws University (private) in Sacramento.
