About Sacramento Dog Owners Group
We
are committed to increasing opportunities for off-leash recreation
for people and their dogs in Sacramento County, especially in open
space and along our rivers, while promoting safe, respectful and
responsible dog ownership.
We are an
all-volunteer, grassroots group of Sacramento County residents who
support off-leash recreation and responsible dog ownership. We enjoy
recreation with our dogs off their leashes, in appropriate places along
the river and in open space. Most of us met and became
friends through our common search for the best areas in Sacramento to
visit with our dogs.
The need is great. Currently, Sacramento County is
home to an estimated 287,410 dogs in 178,888 dog-owning households
(see Sacramento's Canine
Population). But
it has only a few small, fenced dog-parks and no open space or river
areas we can legally enjoy with our dogs off leash. The need has been
further magnified recently by Sacramento County's increased enforcement
efforts against off-leash recreation along the American River during
lightly used early morning and evening hours.
We work together for these goals, using our own time
and money, because our experiences with off-leash recreation have been
so positive for ourselves and our dogs.
We welcome your support!
